Bad Ideas for Your Website (part 3)

Malas Ideas Sitio Web 3

We come to the third and last part of the compilation of bad ideas for every website. Basically we suggest that you take all of these points and ensure that your website does not fall into these pitfalls. Then you will have the basis of a solid and effective website that will help your business get more leads and customers.

Site not optimised

Another problem is forgetting about SEO. Optimising a site for search engines is a priority if you want your site to work. By working, we mean getting you leads with genuine interest in your industry and your offer. If your site doesn't have a comprehensive SEO strategy (design, content, functionality, etc.) then it won't help you sell.

Simply put: if your website does not appear on the first page of Google results, it is as if it does not exist in the world.

Forget mobile phones

Don't just think of mobile browsers as one portion of your audience: think of it as the main one. Design your entire site to be responsive - what does that mean? That it can display correctly regardless of whether someone is accessing it from a laptop, on a PC, on a tablet or on a mobile phone.

This involves designing the mobile and desktop versions in parallel and considering all the resolutions available on the market, as each phone model, from each company, usually has a different one. The trend continues to indicate that more and more people are browsing from their smartphones, so that in many cases they already outnumber traffic from laptops and desktop computers.

"Price per inbox

If your website has a section about your products or services (which it should) don't play mystery with costs. Some people think that talking about money is wrong and hide their prices by making them available only to callers or emailers. Can you imagine if Amazon did that? Silly, isn't it? Then don't do it yourself.

Hiding prices only shows insecurity about what is being offered and that even the company does not believe it is charging what is fair. If you are confident and secure in what you are offering, whether it is a product or a service, then you should not be afraid to state clearly how much it costs.

Security

If your site does not have "https" at the beginning of the address, Google will not prioritise you. Likewise, if you don't offer secure payment methods (ideally Paypal, for starters) you won't be trusted either. If your site's code or the plugins installed on it leave it vulnerable to attack and worse than that: you don't realise it, then you have a lot of work to do.

Website security is an essential element of SEO and it is not an easy thing to do. Therefore you need professional people in charge of it. This is one of the reasons why we insist that a website must be updated: not only in its obvious content, but also in the structure that is not visible. A website is not a project that is done from start to finish, but one that never stops being worked on.

Forgetting that there are more things outside your site

Not everyone revolves around your website and not everyone you want will reach it. That's why you need to complement your campaigns with off-site efforts. Among the things you can do are:

  • Alliances for backlinks.
  • Link to other sites.
  • Campaigns for SEM.
  • Social media campaigns.
  • Have active social media profiles and build communities.

Broadly speaking, a website is a never-ending project that must be kept relevant and be at the centre of the entire digital strategy.
